Championing Women's Mental Health

Women’s mental health drops sharply during perimenopause — and too many go without support.
Debbie Gaunt Foundation is helping to change that by funding research, sharing knowledge and building community awareness around this overlooked life stage.

Why Her Mind Matters

Good mental health is more than avoiding illness — it’s about feeling able to fully engage with life and community.

Women in midlife face unique mental health challenges due to hormonal shifts during perimenopause and menopause.

These changes can trigger or worsen symptoms like anxiety, low mood, irritability and brain fog. Despite these common experiences, support for women’s mental health in this life stage remains limited and under-researched. Emotional wellbeing during this transition is also shaped by social and cultural pressures — including caregiving responsibilities, changing roles, financial stress and stigma surrounding ageing and menopause.

We are committed to funding targeted research and sharing findings through community education.

This includes improving awareness, reducing stigma and developing gender-responsive strategies for prevention, diagnosis and care. By focusing on this critical window of change, we can create a future where women are better supported to thrive — not just survive — in midlife and beyond.

From our community:

“My perimenopause-related mental health struggles led me to the Debbie Gaunt Foundation website. After reading about Debbie’s story, my initial reaction was one of sadness. Following the loss of Debbie, [DGF Founder] Craig’s commitment to raising awareness about perimenopause-related health issues is inspirational.

What a relief to find so much accurate information about the topic. This website will help women feel more connected and empowered, and is providing vital resources to help prevent further loss of loved ones due to lack of awareness around perimenopause-related mental health distress.”
